Series III: Art|Music

The ABQ|Philharmonic under the baton of Byron Herrington present their annual Art|Music Concert. Students have listened to the music in class, and then created artwork based on images or feelings inspired by the music, from a variety of mediums, including acrylics, pastels, oils, photography, 3D, pottery and more. The artwork is projected above the orchestra as well as on display in the lobby at both venues. The evening begins with the stunning overture from Richard Wagner's opera Der Fliegend Hollander (The Flying Dutchman).  We will continue the evening with music from beloved film composer Max Steiner with his suite from the classic film "Casablanca."  Next is Benjamin Britten’s “Peter Grimes: Four Sea Interludes,” and we conclude the evening with two rarely performed pieces, “La Boutique Fantasque Suite” by Ottorino Respighi, and “Háry János Suite,” Op. 15 by Zoltán Kodály.

Richard Wagner, The Flying Dutchman Overture
Max Steiner, Casablanca Suite
Benjamin Britten, Peter Grimes: Four Sea Interludes
Ottorino Respighi, (arr, Rossini), La Boutique Fantasque Suite
Zoltán Kodály, Háry János Suite, Op. 15:
         Prelude:  The Fairy Tale Begins
         The Viennese Musical Clock
         Song
The Battle and Defeat of Napolean
         Intermezzo
Entrance of the Emperor and his Court

Music has inspired artists for hundreds of years. It is the commitment of the ABQ|Philharmonic to share what makes classical music an inspiring tradition. Throughout the performance, artwork from student artists throughout Albuquerque and Rio Rancho will be shared with our audiences. All artwork is inspired by the evenings program.
